Brief Description

Under the Vice President of Operations, the Human Resources Manager establishes HR departmental measurements that support the accomplishment of the company’s strategic goals on a global level. The incumbent partners with management to communicate Human Resources policies, procedures, programs, and laws. They determine and recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship.

The Human Resources Manager manages the day-to-day operations of the Human Resource office regarding the policies, procedures, and programs. They carry out responsibilities in the following functional areas: Human Resources Information System (HRIS), Employee Relations, Recruitment and Staffing, Training and Development, Benefits, Compensation, and Organizational Development.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Employee Relations / Labour Relations:
    • Implements human resource programs by providing human resource services, including talent acquisition, staffing, employment processing, training and development, records management, succession planning, employee relations, retention, and compliance.
    • Provide proactive consultation and input to the management team in the development and implementation of employee/labour relations policies and procedures for both office and plant personnel.
    • Provide practical advice and assistance/coaching to Management and Supervisory staff in the areas of performance management, progressive discipline and documentation, training and development, consistent and fair policy application, and legislation awareness.
    • Active participation in the negotiation and administration of the Collective Agreement.
    • Mediate, advise, and respond to all labor disputes, union grievances and arbitrary matters. Mediate and resolve employee relation disputes as necessary, conduct investigations, and lead positive employee relations as required.
    • Act as Co-Chair during monthly labour relations meetings.
  • Support and assist in workforce requirement planning activities.
  • Employee onboarding, development, needs assessment, and training.
  • Organizational departmental planning; performance and improvement systems.
  • Organization development.
  • Employment and compliance with regulatory concerns regarding employees.
  • Policy and procedure development and roll-out.
  • Company employee and community communication.
  • Compensation and benefits administration.
  • Employee safety, welfare, wellness, and health.
  • Employee services and counseling.
  • Responsible for observing all Morbern’s occupational health and safety rules. This ensures your safety and the safety of others and assists Morbern promote safety at work for all employees.
  • Complies with federal, provincial, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and advising management on needed actions.
  • Additional duties as required.

 

Required Qualifications

Education

  • University Degree or College Diploma in Human Resources Administration/Management or related field
  • CHRP or CHRL designation

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 5 years related HR management experience in a unionized manufacturing environment
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a leadership role

Competencies

  • Good knowledge of employment/labour laws, and employment standards
  • Ability to work in an organization with multiple operational sites
  • Manage multiple projects successfully
  • Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Proven ability to work with, and influence individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills
  • Must possess solid leadership skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively organize, direct, and communicate with subordinates, peers, and other Management personnel (Excellent interpersonal skills, well organized)

  • Must be flexible, adaptable, and demonstrate strong team spirit
  • Self-motivated and self-directed, with a high sense of urgency
