Grievance Management and Arbitration
- Manage a high volume of grievance files from initiation through resolution or arbitration.
- Build cases from A to Z: fact analysis, evidence gathering, witness preparation, legal research, and development of arguments.
- Present and defend the employer’s position before arbitrators and, when required, before quasi-judicial bodies (e.g., federal administrative tribunals, commissions).
- Ensure thorough follow-up on decisions, recommendations, and post-arbitration measures.
- Interact regularly with experienced union representatives.
- Lead discussions proactively to promote negotiated settlements.
- Advise HR teams and managers on the interpretation and application of collective agreements.
- Participate in the strategic analysis of cases with relevant stakeholders.
- Work closely with HR, operations, legal affairs, and senior leadership.
- Contribute to the harmonization of practices and knowledge sharing within the Labour Relations team.
- Support strategic thinking related to labour relations and risk management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations or Human Resources.
- 5 to 7 years of relevant labour relations experience, ideally in a unionized environment.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and presenting arbitration cases.
- Strong knowledge of collective agreements, the Canada Labour Code, and related case law.
- Bilingualism (French/English) required, both spoken and written.
- Ability to work under pressure with rigor and composure.
- CRIA and/or CRHA designation.
- Experience in collective bargaining or mediation.
- Confidence and strong presence in hearings.
