The typical salary range for this position is $105 900.00 - $158 800.00 annually. The base salary offered will be determined based on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity considerations.

Summary

As a business partner to store operations, the Director of Human Resources plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing people strategy, while managing a team of HR professionals. This position oversees all human resources (HR) and labour relations (LR) functions for the conventional banner stores, ensuring that initiatives are closely aligned with business objectives and that the organization remains compliant with legislative requirements. By driving innovative HR solutions and supporting organizational transformation, the Director helps position the company for long-term success.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Partnership
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership in store operations, providing expert counsel on HR and LR matters to support business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify workforce needs and deliver solutions that enable achievement of business goals.
  • Lead the development and execution of HR/LR programs.
  • Ensure a robust succession plan for the banner to support organizational continuity

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team of HR professionals, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
  • Provide clear direction and expert guidance to the HR team on legislative compliance, company policies and complex HR/LR matters.

Employee & Labour Relations

  • Oversee the HR team’s administration and interpretation of collective agreements, including grievance handling, arbitration and settlements.
  • Participate in the negotiation of collective agreements and consult with the Senior Director, LR on complex issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant labour and employment laws and regulations, including HRTO, ESA and OLRB.

Operational Support & Program Delivery

  • Provide leadership and direction on store-based activity, guiding HR Field Managers and senior operations management.
  • Support the delivery of centralized HR service initiatives and programs, including training, salary management, talent management and succession planning.
  • Promote best practices and continuous improvement in HR service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive HR and LR experience in a unionized environment.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in people leadership, including direct management of HR professionals
  • Experience in a retail environment preferred
  • CHRP, CHRL or CHRE designation an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of labour and employment laws and regulations.
  • Proven ability to influence and achieve results through others.
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team of HR professionals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels.
  • Strategic thinking, change management skills and ability to align HR initiatives with business objectives.
